House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform Chairman James Comer (R-Ky.) has provided new details about the committee’s ongoing review of the federal government’s investigation into Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell.

Chairman Comer announced that he has issued a subpoena to the Epstein estate, requesting unredacted documents and communications in its possession, custody, or control.

“The Committee on Oversight and Government Reform is reviewing the possible mismanagement of the federal government’s investigation of Mr. Jeffrey Epstein and Ms. Ghislaine Maxwell, the circumstances and subsequent investigations of Mr. Epstein’s death, the operation of sex-trafficking rings and ways for the federal government to effectively combat them, and potential violations of ethics rules related to elected officials,” wrote Chairman Comer.“It is our understanding that the Estate of Jeffrey Epstein is in custody and control of documents that may further the Committee’s investigation and legislative goals. Further, it is our understanding the Estate is ready and willing to provide these documents to the Committee pursuant to a subpoena. To that end, please see the attached subpoena for documents for delivery on or before September 8, 2025.”

In addition to seeking information from Epstein’s estate, Chairman Comer said Alexander Acosta—former U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Florida and former Secretary of Labor—will voluntarily appear for a transcribed interview with committee staff on September 19, 2025.

Comer also stated that former Attorneys General Alberto Gonzelez, Eric Holder, and Jeff Sessions will be allowed to submit formal written declarations under penalty of prosecution for false statements confirming they have no information regarding either case. These individuals had previously been subpoenaed for depositions after an Oversight Subcommittee motion.

James Comer currently represents Kentucky’s 1st district in Congress after replacing Ed Whitfield in 2016. He previously served in the Kentucky House of Representatives from 2001 to 2012. Born in Carthage, Tennessee in 1972, Comer now lives in Tompkinsville. He graduated from Western Kentucky University with a bachelor’s degree in science in 1993.
