Department of Art & Design is showcasing student work in latest exhibition

The Murray State University Department of Art & Design and University Galleries are pleased to present the Professional Blend XIV, an exhibition of student work, on view now until March 28 in the Mary Ed Mecoy Hall Gallery on the sixth floor of the Doyle Price Fine Arts Building located on Murray State’s campus.

Professional Blend XIV features work in a variety of mediums by students currently enrolled in ART 399: Professional Practices in Art. In the course, students develop the components of a professional artist portfolio, including an artist/design statement and bio, resume, press releases, cover letters and documentation of their creative work. The students also work together on the exhibition, choosing which of their works to include, designing the layout, performing the installation and promoting the exhibition.

Students whose work is featured this semester include:

•    Grant Hoffman, junior art major from Prospect, Kentucky

•    Hannah Robards, junior art major from Henderson, Kentucky

•    Laurie Snellen, senior art major from Murray, Kentucky

•    Miranda Tynes, senior art major from Mayfield, Kentucky

•    Jonathan Wong, senior art major from Belize

“I am grateful for the continued support of the Art & Design faculty and staff,” said T. Michael Martin, associate professor of art and director of University Galleries. “I would also like to thank the exhibiting students for loaning their works for this show and recognize the students for their effort on this exhibition.”

“I also acknowledge the gallery student worker team – Beth Bailey, Cross Berry, Isa Bolanos, Maria Castlen, Cheyenne Pender, Skyler Pointer, Gretchen Ruth, Maggie Shooltz and Harley Simmons –  for their assistance with this exhibition and for supporting the ongoing educational mission of the University Galleries.”

The University Galleries visitor hours for Spring 2023 are Monday – Thursday, 8 a.m. – 6 p.m., and Friday 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Admission to the galleries is free and open to the public.
