Honors Roll In For Nesler, Racers Prior To 2022 Season

As the 2022 season approaches, several members of the Murray State football team’s  have been spotlighted for preseason acclaim. Fifth-year offensive lineman Levi Nesler leads the Racers’ preseason accolades, as he was recently named as a second-team preseason All-American by Lindy’s Sports.

The Mayfield native and former walk-on has already cemented his place in Racers history as one of the program’s offensive line greats by starting in 40 of 41 eligible games in his career. Last season, he earned his consecutive first-team All-OVC accolade, in addition to being named as just one of 50 players nationwide to be named to the FCS ADA Academic All-Star team.

In addition to the accolade by Lindy’s Sports, Nesler has also been named as the best player in the nation to wear No. 63 by HERO Sports, which also named him as one of the 40 best offensive linemen in the FCS. Nesler was not the only Racer honored by HERO Sports as he was named as one of the top 35 running backs in the country.

FCS podcast “The Bluebloods” also recently released its own preseason All-OVC teams featuring five Racers. Kicker Aaron Baum, wide receiver LaMartez Brooks, linebacker Eric Samuta, tight end Jake Saathoff and Nesler were all named to the team which featured 14 offensive players, 11 defensive players and three specialists.

The 2022 season will unofficially begin for Murray State Tuesday at the annual OVC Media Day at Nashville. Head coach Dean Hood, Nesler and cornerback Quinaz Turner will represent the Racers at the event which will kick-off with the release of the preseason All-OVC team and predicted order of finish.
