The Murray State baseball team is set to play the UCF Knights in Orlando, Florida, from March 6-8. This three-game series will be the first time the two programs have met.
Murray State heads into the weekend after a 5-2 loss to Middle Tennessee, which was only its third defeat of the season. The Racers have shown strong offensive output this year, with six players each recording at least 10 RBIs—leading the Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) in that category. The pitching staff has also performed well, with a team ERA of 5.19, ranking second in the MVC.
Nic Schutte has led Murray State’s rotation and currently tops the MVC with three wins and 18 strikeouts over his first three starts. The Racers have hit six home runs in their last five games and have been successful on the basepaths, stealing 16 bases in 17 attempts during that span. Overall this season, they have stolen 31 bases on 33 tries.
This series marks Murray State’s first game against a Power 4 opponent for the current season.
UCF enters with a record of 6-5 overall and has won five out of seven games at home. The Knights have faced tough competition early in their schedule and are ranked 45th nationally in RPI while holding the country’s 25th toughest strength of schedule. UCF was projected to finish tenth in the Big 12 preseason poll but currently sits eleventh in conference standings.
Andrew Williamson leads UCF’s offense as their only player named to the Big 12 Preseason Team for this year. He recently went four-for-five at bat—including a grand slam—in UCF’s midweek win over FGCU.
All games will be available for streaming on ESPN+. Additional information about Murray State Baseball can be found at GoRacers.com or by following @RacersBaseball on X and Instagram.
