The Murray State Racers will host the Valparaiso Beacons for a Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) weekend softball series at Racer Field in Murray, Kentucky, with games scheduled for Friday, March 13 and Saturday, March 14.
This matchup is significant as both teams share identical overall records of 9-12 but are positioned differently in the conference standings. The Racers currently sit sixth in the MVC after splitting their opening weekend doubleheader against UNI, while Valparaiso is at the bottom of the standings following two losses to Southern Illinois.
During their last outing, Murray State won an extra-inning game against UNI with Karlye Graber earning the win in relief and Bailey Broemmer delivering the decisive RBI. The team dropped the second game after falling behind early. The Racers have shown strength on the basepaths this season, ranking second in the conference with 38 stolen bases. Katy Huels and Kynadee Warner are among league leaders in steals. Broemmer leads Murray State with a .358 batting average and 11 runs batted in, while Warner has a team-high 24 hits and a .353 average. Freshman catcher Allie Waldron has contributed with a .309 average and leads the team with 13 walks.
On the pitching side, Bre Haislip leads Murray State with nearly 49 innings pitched and holds a 3.31 earned run average (ERA). Emily Siurek has posted a team-best ERA of 3.20 over almost 20 innings, while Graber leads in strikeouts.
Valparaiso enters having lost its first two conference games but boasts one of the top batting averages in the MVC at .293 and leads all teams with 160 hits. Madison Vrastil is second in stolen bases within the conference. Pitcher Sydney McDermott has seven wins and ranks third in strikeouts among MVC pitchers.
Murray State holds a perfect record against Valparaiso historically, winning all five previous meetings including two road victories last year. Fans can follow live coverage on ESPN+ or track stats via GoRacers.com.
