Skirka Earns 100th Career Win as Racers Split Marathon Day at Johnny Reagan Field
Murray State baseball took game one of Saturday’s doubleheader 8-5 before falling 13-10 in game two at Johnny Reagan Field in Murray, Kentucky. The win in game one was Head Coach Dan Skirka’s 100th win at the helm for the Racers.
Game One Recap
The Racers did big damage in the first inning scoring four runs on four hits. Charlie Corum plated the first run of the game on an RBI single to score Cade Sammons. Brennan McCullough notched his first of three hits on an RBI double to score Dustin Mercer in the first inning.
Mercer extended his hit streak to five games with a first-inning single. Carson Garner continued to stay hot with an RBI single in the third inning before Riley Hawthorne collected his second of three RBIs.
Jacob Pennington earned the win on the mound going 5.0 innings pitched and giving up three earned runs while striking out two. Nathan Holler and Ben Krizen combined for 4.0 innings pitched in relief while giving up just one earned run with four combined strikeouts. Krizen earned his first save of the season in the appearance.
Game Two Recap
The Norse got off to a hot start scoring three first-inning runs thanks to some timely hitting and an error from the Racers defense. Murray State got the matchup as close as 4-2 thanks to an RBI single by Ethan Krizen before NKU was able to expand the lead once again.
The Racers again threatened to make a comeback in the third inning on a two-RBI double off the bat of Seth Gardner but again the Norse found answers on the offensive side.
Trailing by seven runs going into the ninth inning, MSU threatened after scoring four runs following a wild pitch, two bases-loaded walks, and an RBI single from Krizen. The Racers had the go-ahead run at the plate but were unable to convert.
