CITY OF PADUCAH: Installation of Artwork for powerART! Program Begins Monday

Dsc04058

City of Paducah issued the following announcement on Sept. 20

Beginning Monday, September 23, artists will be turning ten nondescript utility boxes located near Lake Gerry B. Montgomery at Noble Park into works of art.  Paducah Power System and the City of Paducah invited artists to submit designs for the powerART! program.  After receiving 17 designs for consideration, a selection committee narrowed the field to ten designs.

Designs from the following artists/organizations have been selected

  • Char Downs (painting two utility boxes)
  • Easterseals West Kentucky – Art Program (painting three utility boxes)
  • Barry Johnson (painting one utility box)
  • Lily Proctor (painting one utility box)
  • Jennifer Simmons (painting three utility boxes)
The artists will be working over the next three weeks to complete their designs which are either abstract or nature-based.

Customer Experience Specialist Nelvin Cecil Howell helped coordinate the powerART! program.  Howell says, “I invite the public to talk with these artists.  The ultimate goal is for people to engage with the artists, the park, and the artwork.  We want people to spend time in this space and enjoy the art and the natural beauty of the park.”

The artists will be using acrylic paint on the utility boxes.  Each artist/organization will be receiving $250 for each completed utility box to pay for supplies and artistic service.

If you have a question, contact Howell in the Customer Experience Department at 270-444-8800.
