City of Paducah issued the following announcement on Nov. 8

The City of Paducah is holding Firehouse Chili on Friday, November 15 to benefit the United Way of Paducah-McCracken County.  Everyone is invited to Fire Station #1 located at 301 Washington Street from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. to purchase chili, chili pie, chili dogs, and/or hot dogs cooked by firefighters.  Bring the entire family or office and enjoy lunch at one of the many tables set up in the fire station’s heated bays.  Carry out is available, too.

Assistant Fire Chief David Denton says, “The United Way is an outstanding organization with the goals of improving the quality of life and opportunity in our community.  It is an honor for the Paducah Fire Department to team up with the United Way and host Firehouse Chili.  We invite everyone to join us November 15 for some good food, fellowship, and the opportunity to give back to the community.”

Assistant City Clerk Claudia Meeks helps coordinate the lunch.  Meeks says, “The community has always been very supportive, and I encourage everyone to attend this year’s event.”

Meeks adds, “Midtown Market provides the meat to make the chili, and Pepsi MidAmerica donates all the drinks.  City staff and Commissioners donate money to purchase supplies.  This generosity enables 100% of the proceeds to benefit the United Way.  Last year, Firehouse Chili raised $1236 dollars.  We would like to surpass that amount to assist the United Way in helping meet the community’s needs.”

Annually, City of Paducah employees raise approximately $10,000 for the United Way through fundraising events such as Firehouse Chili and employee contributions out of paychecks.
