City of Paducah issued the following announcement.
Make plans to spend Saturday, December 7 in downtown Paducah enjoying family-friendly activities.
Candy Cane Hunt: The Parks & Recreation Department’s award-winning Candy Cane Hunt will be December 7 on the Carson Center lawn located at 100 Kentucky Avenue. Registration begins at 12 p.m. for this free event where children ages 10 and under race to find candy canes. The children will be divided into three age groups and will race at different times to collect more than 3000 candy canes and prizes provided by Banterra Bank. The hunts will be at 12:45 p.m. for children 3 and under; 1 p.m. for children 4 to 6 years of age, and 1:15 p.m. for children 7 to 10 years of age. Gift bags will be given out at registration while supplies last. Plus, there will be special candy canes that have special prizes.
Kids can also take part in the Yeiser Art Center Coloring Contest anytime from noon until 2 p.m. They can color their sheet on site and turn it in before leaving or turn it in to the Yeiser Art Center before 5 p.m. that day. Winners will be announced after December 7 with prizes for the winning entries in the following age groups: 0-3, 4-6, and 7-10.
Each gift bag at registration will contain an activity book from the Carson Center. Plus, there will be a chance to win tickets to an upcoming Carson Center performance.
Recently, the Kentucky Recreation & Park Society named the Candy Cane Hunt as the Class IV Program of the Year.
Christmas Parade: The annual City of Paducah Christmas Parade is scheduled for Saturday, December 7 in downtown Paducah. The parade begins at 5 p.m. at 14th and Broadway and travels down Broadway to 2nd Street. The parade will then turn left on 2nd Street and continue to Monroe Street where it will disband. Parade participants are encouraged to continue moving on 2nd Street toward the Farmers’ Market pavilion to maintain the flow of the parade.
The theme for the 2019 Christmas Parade is Christmas Celebrations Around the World with music and lighting required on each of the parade’s more than 100 entries. The judging for the parade entries will be at 4 p.m. on December 7. Santa Claus will make a special appearance at the end of the parade on the official Santa float and will be available for photos after the parade at the downtown gazebo.
Sara Bradley is the Christmas Parade Grand Marshal. Chef Bradley opened freight house in downtown Paducah in 2015. In mid-2018, Bradley showcased Kentucky cooking and Paducah hospitality as one of the sixteen contestants on Bravo’s Top Chef finishing as the runner-up.
Parade entries will marshal on Broadway between 14th and Fountain Avenue, on Fountain Avenue between Broadway and Monroe, and on Jefferson between 14th and Fountain Avenue. Streets will be closed in the staging area beginning at 2:30 p.m. on December 7. Streets along the parade route will close by 3 p.m. in preparation for the parade. The Parks & Recreation Department also asks the public to refrain from parking in the parade preparation area from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. to help limit the congestion of vehicles and floats.
