Cost of college went up for all students at Murray State University

In-state tuition and fees rose 3 percent for 2018-19 at Murray State University, according to recent data from the U.S. Department of Education.

Kentucky residents paid $9,084 to attend the four-year public institution this year – $264 more than the $8,820 charged for 2017-18.

Non-residents paid 170.1 percent more than residents this year, or $24,540. Their price tag grew 3 percent from $23,820 in 2017-18.

About 66 percent of the school's undergraduate population are Kentucky residents. About 33 percent are residents of other states and 1 percent are citizens of other countries.

Data shows 97 percent of full-time undergraduates who started school in 2015-16 received student financial aid in some form. In all, 1,294 students received grants or scholarships totaling $11.5 million and 822 students took out student loans totaling more than $7.1 million.

Including all undergraduates (9,454), 6,973 students used grants or scholarships totaling $57.5 million, and 3,934 students took out $31.7 million in federal student loans.
