Heckman earned her bachelor's degree from Murray State in May of 2021.
"I am very excited to add Izzy to our staff. She was an unbelievable player for us, and I look forward to seeing her transition into a coaching role," said coach Matt Lodge. "She will build great relationships with the players and will share her knowledge of the game. She has a bright future as a coach and I'm happy she starts her coaching journey with us here at Murray State."
The Racers begin their season with an exhibition on August 10 at Western Kentucky.
