The Racers would pick up momentum as the weekend went along as Murray State picked up their first win of the season on Saturday against Austin Peay. MSU picked up three wins in singles play with victories coming from Natalie Slezakova, Jordi Font Montero, and Paola Campigotto. In doubles play the duos of Slezakova/Sarah Bureau and Kreugel/Annika Pschorr securing the match victory for Murray State.
Against WKU, the Racers again took three singles wins with Honore, Pschorr, and Bureau taking their flights to secure the first three points for MSU. In doubles play, Murray State took the sweep over the Lady Toppers to end the weekend in impressive fashion.
"We couldn't have asked for a better weekend of matches to start the season. It was great to get tested this early into the season with so many competitive matches throughout the weekend," said Coach Jorge Caetano. "It is easier to play conservative early in the season and get wins because everyone is rusty so we talked about not letting winning get in the way of improving and overall we did a very great job there."
Caetano continued in saying, "The first day we made a lot of decision-making mistakes, especially in doubles but as the weekend went on, our decision-making got much better but, we still need to improve our execution and the only way to do it is by playing more matches, so we are very excited for another great weekend of matches at UCA next weekend."
Murray State continues the fall season this weekend (Sept. 23-24) at the Central Arkansas Invitational
