Rector and Hinson Named Patriots Athletes of the Week

Patriot athletics had another strong week with multiple teams earning critical wins.  Based on their performance throughout the week, dancer/cheerleader Natalie Rector and guard Jahi Hinson were selected as the Pepsi Athletes of the Week, announced by the athletic department Monday.

Natalie Rector earned athlete of the week honors after helping the Patriots go 3-0 on the weekend at the Patriots Spirit Open.  Rector opened the weekend helping lead the dance team to a win over three other competitors.  UC tallied an 85.67, which was their highest score of the season, to lead them to a two point win over Thomas More.  That score helped the Patriots move into fourth in the NAIA.  Rector followed that up by helping the Cumberlands cheerleading team to a pair of dual meet wins.  The Patriots earned an 84.8-71.5 win over Campbellsville in their first dual meet of the week. Rector was part of UC's team that knocked off Midway as they scored an 84.35.  UC cheer is ranked ninth in the NAIA.

Jahi Hinson earned athlete of the week honors after helping lead the Patriots to a pair of critical conference road wins.  The fifth-year senior averaged 23.0 ppg and 4.0 rpg.  Hinson opened the week tallying a game-high 22 points and six rebounds in the win over Bethel.  The Detroit, MI native netted 15 second half points as Cumberlands pulled away from the Wildcats.  Against 14th-ranked Freed-Hardeman, Hinson went off for 24 points, converting 50% from the field.  The fifth-year player netted 17 points in the second half and helped set up the game-winning three-pointer as UC knocked off the Lions.  With this week's performance, Hinson moves into second all-time in program history with 1,961 points.
