Huge Seventh Inning Fuels Racers to Series Win

Murray State baseball picked up a 10-5 win over Northern Kentucky on Sunday afternoon at Johnny Reagan Field to secure their first series win of the season. An offensive explosion in the seventh inning of the matchup with five runs on six hits in the frame ensured the victory.

Outfielder Dustin Mercer and second baseman Logan Bland each led the MSU offense with three hits apiece. Ethan Krizen got the scoring started for MSU on a second-inning three-run home run, his first at Murray State.

Brennan McCullough belted his second home run of the season in the fifth inning to regain the lead for MSU after the Norse had leveled the scoring at three.

In the seventh inning, the Racer bats caught fire, plating five runs in the inning capped by a two-RBI double by Taylor Howell to score Mercer and Cade Sammons.

Thomas McNabb earned the win after going for 3.1 innings pitched in relief. McNabb allowed just one earned run while striking out three before giving way to Nathan Holler. In his second of back-to-back days in relief, Holler tossed a scoreless inning while striking out two.

Ben Krizen closed out the win for MSU after tossing 1.1 scoreless innings and striking out three Norse batters.
