WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) expressed enthusiastic support for Hungary’s approval of Sweden’s accession to NATO. McConnell highlighted the importance of this decision in strengthening the alliance and enhancing security measures.

"Strengthening the North Atlantic Treaty Organization means strengthening U.S. national security and the collective security of the West. Today, Hungary’s near-unanimous ratification of Sweden’s accession brings another capable and committed ally to the doorstep of the most successful military alliance in human history," McConnell stated.

McConnell also praised Sweden for its dedication to technological advancement and defense investments, emphasizing the positive impact these contributions will have on the trans-Atlantic alliance.

"Sweden’s commitment to technological innovation and defense investment will make immediate and meaningful contributions to the trans-Atlantic alliance. Our newest treaty ally continues to expand its defense industrial capacity and model the military budget increases expected of all NATO member states," McConnell added.

In conclusion, McConnell expressed the United States' and the entire alliance's anticipation in welcoming Sweden formally into NATO later this year.
