WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) addressed the Senate floor today, emphasizing the importance of Congressional Review Act resolutions aimed at reducing regulatory burdens on small businesses and consumers.
McConnell highlighted the efforts of Senators Capito and Cramer in pushing back against a Federal Highway Administration mandate, stating, “I’ve spoken before about the effort led by our colleagues, Senator Capito and Senator Cramer, to block a coercive, one-size-fits-all mandate from the Federal Highway Administration..."
Expressing gratitude towards his colleagues from West Virginia and North Dakota, McConnell mentioned, “I’m glad our colleagues will have a chance to support this resolution, and I’m grateful to our colleagues from West Virginia and North Dakota for their leadership."
The Senate also focused on addressing the Biden Administration’s regulatory actions, particularly targeting small businesses. McConnell criticized a new rule by the NLRB that expands the definition of an employer, potentially burdening small businesses with additional liabilities. He stated, “President Biden’s Big Labor allies at the NLRB have issued a new rule that would expand the definition of an employer in a way that would make employers liable for other businesses’ employees that they don’t even directly oversee."
In a poignant moment, McConnell shared a letter from a Kentuckian expressing concerns over the impact of the new rule on small businesses, underscoring the challenges faced by entrepreneurs. The letter read, “I implore you to stop [them] from killing many small businesses like mine..."
McConnell reaffirmed his commitment to supporting small businesses, noting his history of opposing the joint employer rule. He expressed solidarity with Senators Cassidy and Manchin in leading the charge to block the labor rule, urging his colleagues to reject the NLRB’s regulation.
As McConnell concluded, he highlighted the legal actions already taken against the rule and called on his fellow Senators to stand against what he described as the NLRB’s "radical" approach.
In a continued effort to ease regulatory burdens on small businesses and protect consumers, McConnell’s remarks underscored the ongoing commitment to support entrepreneurship and economic growth.
