WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) released a statement today regarding the passing of Louisville, Kentucky native and former U.S. Ambassador to Austria, William Lee Lyons Brown Jr.
“Elaine and I were saddened to learn of the passing of a dear friend and distinguished public servant, the Honorable Lee Brown. Between his executive career in Kentucky and decades of diplomatic expertise, including serving as U.S. Ambassador to Austria, Lee developed a command over the complexities of international business and America’s special relationship with Europe," McConnell said.
He added, "Over our friendship that spanned five decades, Lee never hesitated to answer his country’s call to service. His legacy is one marked by hard work and devotion to the timeless principles that have underpinned American leadership for generations. Today, our thoughts and prayers are with his wife, Alice Cary, his children, and all those touched by Lee’s service.”
