U.S. Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell announced the allocation of $33,780,304 in federal funding by the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) to Paducah and Louisville (P&L) Transportation. This funding is designated for infrastructure improvements along the 280-mile main line between Louisville and Paducah, Kentucky. The projects include upgrades to signals and track infrastructure, installation of a wheel truing machine, and rehabilitation of five rail bridges in Hardin and Muhlenberg Counties.
The grant was awarded under the Infrastructure for Rebuilding America (INFRA) program, which provides competitive grants for freight and highway projects. Senator McConnell played a role in securing $3.2 billion for the INFRA program through the bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, which he supported in Congress.
The P&L main rail line connects with four major North American railroads, facilitating transportation for military equipment, manufacturing materials, and other essential freight.
McConnell stated: "As a transportation and logistics hub, Kentucky keeps millions of American goods and people on the move. From strengthening our regional economy to facilitating interstate commerce nationwide, our rail infrastructure – and investments to sustain it – has benefits that ripple across the entire country."
Tom Greene, Chairman, President, and CEO of P&L Transportation expressed gratitude: “P&L is excited to continue our work to rebuild critical freight railroad infrastructure... I want to especially thank Senator McConnell for all of his hard work... These projects and the funding announced today would not be possible without his support.”
