U.S. Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell recently met with Representative Elise Stefanik, who has been nominated by President-elect Trump to serve as the United States Ambassador to the United Nations. McConnell expressed his support for Stefanik's nomination in a statement released after their meeting.

"I was glad to meet today with President-elect Trump’s nominee to serve as Representative of the United States to the United Nations, Representative Elise Stefanik," McConnell stated. He emphasized the need for change within the international organization, stating that it "is in dire need of a wake-up call" and described Stefanik as "uniquely well-suited to deliver it."

McConnell highlighted concerns about the current state of affairs at the UN, particularly regarding its treatment of Israel. He remarked, "In a forum corrupted by authoritarians where cowardly majorities hector the embattled Jewish state of Israel, the next U.S. Ambassador must speak with uncompromising moral clarity."

The Senate leader also noted his alignment with Stefanik on specific issues, including accountability for UNRWA's actions related to events on October 7th. "I am particularly encouraged that the President-elect’s nominee shares my commitment to holding UNRWA accountable for its role in the horrors of October 7th and keeping U.S. taxpayer dollars clear of such vile complicity," he said.

McConnell concluded by expressing his anticipation for a prompt Senate review of Stefanik's nomination and voiced confidence in her potential impact on American foreign policy: "I look forward to the Senate’s timely consideration of Representative Stefanik’s nomination. I hope and expect she will be a proud proponent of an American foreign policy based on peace through strength."
