U.S. Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell has outlined his priorities for the 119th Congress, emphasizing national security and institutional defense. In a statement released on November 21, 2024, McConnell highlighted the significant threats facing America's national security interests.
"America’s national security interests face the gravest array of threats since the Second World War," McConnell stated. He expressed his commitment to addressing these challenges as Chairman of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Defense. He also mentioned his intention to collaborate closely with incoming Chair Susan Collins to achieve their common objectives.
In addition to his role in defense appropriations, McConnell will lead the Senate Rules Committee as its Chairman. He emphasized the importance of defending the Senate's institutional integrity and safeguarding political speech rights during elections. "Defending the Senate as an institution and protecting the right to political speech in our elections remain among my longest-standing priorities," he noted.
McConnell praised Ranking Member Deb Fischer for her contributions to advancing these causes and expressed confidence in her continued partnership in the committee's work.
