U.S. Senator Mitch McConnell has expressed support for Doug Collins, the nominee for U.S. Secretary of Veterans Affairs. In a statement following their meeting, McConnell emphasized the importance of providing top-notch care to veterans, including those in Kentucky.
McConnell stated, "We owe the brave men and women who have served our nation – including the more than 300,000 veterans who call Kentucky home – the best care and treatment available." He highlighted concerns over past management issues within the department and his anticipation of collaborating with Collins to enhance accountability.
The senator further praised Collins's qualifications, noting his military background: "As a veteran himself and current Chaplain and Colonel in the Air Force Reserves, Mr. Collins will make an excellent advocate for our nation’s veterans and their families."
