U.S. Senator Mitch McConnell addressed the Senate, critiquing President Biden's foreign policy and highlighting what he sees as failures in strengthening America's global position. McConnell questioned Biden's claim that his administration had "increased America’s power in every dimension," suggesting that only those present with the President would agree.

McConnell expressed skepticism about Biden's handling of international relations, particularly with Russia and Ukraine. He argued that the administration’s fear of escalation limited support to Ukraine, allowing resistance to weaken over time rather than decisively countering aggression.

On Middle East policies, McConnell pointed out a lack of acknowledgment for Israel's role in creating geopolitical opportunities despite U.S. efforts to restrain its self-defense capabilities. He criticized the President’s approach towards China, citing insufficient defense budget requests and misplaced focus on climate diplomacy over military investment.

He stated, "America’s warfighters are no better equipped today to deter and defeat aggression than they were four years ago."

As President Biden prepares to leave office, McConnell anticipates a shift under the new leadership committed to "peace through strength." He emphasized rebuilding American hard power as essential for restoring credibility and deterrence against adversaries like Russia, Iran, North Korea, and China.

McConnell called for substantial investment in defense akin to historical wartime spending levels. He assured support for confirming nominees aligned with these strategic goals: “Nominees whose professional experience is commensurate with the responsibilities of their office… Will earn my vote.”

The Senator concluded by underscoring urgency in addressing what he perceives as shortcomings from the outgoing administration: “Our chance to turn the page on the damage of the Biden Administration’s record simply cannot come soon enough.”
