U.S. Senator Mitch McConnell has expressed relief over the reported ceasefire and agreement to release American and Israeli hostages held by Hamas. In a statement, McConnell noted that "after 470 days at the hands of brutal terrorist captors, thirty-three innocent men, women, and children will soon return home." He shared in the joy of their families and extended prayers for those who continue to suffer due to terrorist actions.
McConnell emphasized that the ceasefire is not a resolution to ongoing conflicts involving Iran's proxy wars against Israel, America, and allied nations. He stated, "The reported ceasefire agreement is not the end of Iran’s proxy wars against Israel, America, and our partners," acknowledging that Israel understands this challenge better than most.
He credited Israel's efforts in dismantling groups like Hamas and Hizballah as instrumental in gaining leverage for securing justice for hostages. McConnell further expressed his hope that the incoming Administration would support Israel in its continued efforts against terrorism: "I hope and expect the incoming Administration will provide Israel the time, space, and support to keep the world’s most active state sponsor of terror and its proxies on their heels."
