U.S. Senator Mitch McConnell has expressed his support for the recent Senate passage of the Laken Riley Act, a bill he cosponsored. In a statement released today, McConnell emphasized the need for leadership in addressing issues related to public safety and border security.
"American voters were desperate for leaders who could deliver safe streets and secure borders," McConnell stated. He highlighted what he described as "four years of failure" to tackle the ongoing crisis at the nation's borders. According to McConnell, it was "the overwhelming bipartisan pressure to act on the border" that influenced Washington Democrats to take action.
The Laken Riley Act, introduced by Senator Britt and Senator Budd, is characterized by McConnell as "commonsense, bipartisan legislation." He believes it will equip law enforcement with necessary tools to enhance community safety. Furthermore, McConnell indicated that Senate Republicans are prepared to advance additional policies aimed at fixing the immigration system and preventing incidents similar to those involving Laken Riley and Sarah Root.
