U.S. Senator Mitch McConnell has expressed his support for Lee Zeldin's confirmation as the Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). In a statement, McConnell highlighted Zeldin's previous service in the U.S. House of Representatives and his ongoing role as a Lieutenant Colonel in the Army Reserve.
McConnell stated, "Lee Zeldin served our country honorably in the U.S. House of Representatives and the Army, where he remains a Lieutenant Colonel in the Army Reserve." He emphasized that Zeldin's new position will allow him to continue serving the nation under President Trump's administration.
The senator criticized past climate policies, describing them as radical and detrimental to American workers, farmers, and job creators. According to McConnell, "The EPA is in desperate need of reform after four years of radical climate policies that almost always came at the expense of American workers, farmers and job creators."
He expressed confidence in Zeldin's ability to lead the agency effectively. "Lee Zeldin understands the urgency of returning the agency to its core mission of clean air and clean water – without crippling our economy," McConnell said. He concluded by stating his belief that Zeldin will guide the EPA towards more balanced environmental policies.
