U.S. Senator Mitch McConnell expressed his approval of President Donald Trump's recent executive order aimed at revitalizing the coal industry. The order is seen by McConnell as a means to reverse what he described as "years of Obama-Biden regulatory overreach" that he claims have negatively impacted the coal sector.
In his statement, McConnell remarked, "Today’s executive order supporting coal-fired power plants will begin to roll back years of Obama-Biden regulatory overreach that targeted those who generate affordable and reliable American energy." He criticized the policies of the Biden administration, accusing them of forcing miners into early retirement, affecting rural communities, increasing energy prices, and weakening national security.
McConnell pointed out that while the United States faced these challenges, China, identified as a strategic competitor, continued to invest heavily in its coal production capacity. He commended the Trump Administration for taking what he sees as crucial actions to support an industry critical to many livelihoods in Kentucky, affirming his commitment to workers in the coal sector.
"I’ll continue to stand firmly behind the Kentuckians and workers across coal country who keep the lights on," McConnell concluded in his statement.
