Cumberlands Drop Matchup to 10th Ranked Saints

Cumberlands fell to the 10th ranked Saints on Saturday afternoon 71-57. UC moves to 13-8 and 7-8 in MSC play this year. The Patriots never led in the game and were outscored 46-28 in the paint. Both teams had difficulties from deep as UC shot 22.2% from three while TMU shot just 16.7%.

The Patriots duo of Jahi Hinson and Steven Fitzgerald both netted 12 points, adding five and seven rebounds each. Kamari Kenemore and Andre Silva gave solid minutes off the bench. Kenemore scored 8 pts while Silva had 6 pts and 5 reb.

The Pats kept it close through the first five minutes with a pair of jumpers from Hinson and one from Jadrian Flores. This was followed by a 15-5 TMU run to make it 21-11 with nine minutes left in the half. Another mid-range shot from Hinson and Fitzgerald's first three of the afternoon made it a five point game.

Two Saint lay-ups followed by an Austin Hall bucket and a Hinson three brought the score to 25-21 with just over three minutes to play in the opening half. The remainder of the half saw just two free throws from Matt Cromer for UC, and five points for Thomas More to give them the 30-23 lead heading into the locker room.

Back-to-back buckets from Silva and Flores opened up half number two and cut UC's deficit to just three. This would be the closest the Pats got as TMU outscored UC 21-6 over the next seven minutes of action. Free throws from J.J. Ramey and Flores in addition to a made layup from Fitzgerald accounted for Cumberlands only points in this stretch.

The Patriots just couldn't get back in the game in the final 11 minutes of play. UC did outscore the Saints by four points over this time. Kenemore scored all eight of his points over this stretch of action while Lamar Harris Jr. added five points himself. The final buzzer sounded and TMU took the contest 71-57.

Cumberlands will travel south for a two-game road trip in Tennessee next week. They will take on the Bethel University Wildcats on Thursday the 26th in McKenzie, TN where they look to get a big win before the matchup with #8 Freed-Hardeman on that Saturday.
