WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) announced today that the City of Danville will be receiving a significant boost to its water infrastructure. The city has been awarded $1,996,505 in federal funding, which will be allocated towards implementing Phase II of the Lebanon Road / Clarks Run Sanitary Sewer Improvements Project. This investment will enable much-needed improvements to Danville's water infrastructure and pave the way for future industrial and economic development in the region.
The federal funding, made possible through the U.S. Department of Commerce's Economic Development Administration (EDA), is part of the Fiscal Year 2023 government funding bill. Senator McConnell, as a senior member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, played a crucial role in supporting Danville's competitive grant application and advocating for EDA funding in the annual government funding bill.
"This funding is welcome news for the City of Danville," said Senator McConnell. "This investment will help make much-needed improvements to Danville's water infrastructure and pave the way for future industrial and economic development in the region. I was proud to work with local officials in Danville to help secure this federal grant, and I will continue to work in the Senate to ensure the federal government prioritizes resources for Kentucky's communities that need them the most."
The City of Danville, already committed to improving its existing waterline infrastructure, expressed gratitude for the federal support. Mayor James Atkins highlighted the significance of this funding for the city's ongoing efforts to enhance water and wastewater infrastructure.
"The City of Danville couldn't be more pleased to see today's grant announcement," said Mayor Atkins. "Significant improvements to Danville's existing water and wastewater infrastructure are already underway, and today's federal funding will help ensure we can continue this great work. We are grateful for the support of Senator McConnell and the special focus he gives to economic development in this region of Kentucky."
This federal investment will have a lasting impact on Danville's water infrastructure, enabling the city to meet the needs of its residents and manufacturers, while also preparing for future growth and economic opportunities.
