U.S. Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell expressed his condolences following the passing of Ted Olson. In a statement released on November 13, 2024, McConnell shared his personal reflections and respect for Olson's contributions to the legal field.
"Elaine and I were saddened to hear of the passing of our good friend, Ted Olson," McConnell stated.
He acknowledged Olson's distinguished career as a litigator, highlighting his role as counsel to two presidents and his reputation in the legal community. "Even in a town full of lawyers, Ted’s career as a litigator was particularly prolific. His exemplary counsel to two presidents made him a sought-after advocate at the highest levels of our legal system. Having found myself on the losing side of an Olson case before, I can attest to his well-earned reputation for winning."
McConnell also emphasized Olson's character beyond his professional achievements: "More importantly, I count myself among so many in Washington who knew Ted as a good and decent man." He extended thoughts and sympathies to Olson's family during this time: "And today, our thoughts are with Ted’s wife, Lady, and the entire Olson family."
