U.S. Senator Mitch McConnell expressed his views on the nomination of Lori Chavez-DeRemer as U.S. Secretary of Labor, highlighting concerns about her past policies related to union membership. In a statement, McConnell pointed out that "the American people demand and deserve change after four years of economic heartache under the ‘most pro-union administration in American history.’" He criticized Chavez-DeRemer's record for promoting policies that he believes force Americans into union membership.
McConnell emphasized that most Americans see joining a union as a personal choice rather than an obligation, noting that more than half of the states, including Kentucky, have implemented right-to-work laws. He suggested that Secretary Chavez-DeRemer has a significant opportunity to prioritize the interests of working families over those of labor leaders by allowing workers to join unions voluntarily. "I hope she takes it," McConnell concluded.
