Murray State University issued the following announcement.
The Dr. and Mrs. Gary Brummer Colloquium Series in Psychology presents Dr. Kevin Stein, "The Past, Present, and Future of Cancer Survivorship: Implications for Care and Research." This presentation is free and open to the public.
Abstract:
There has been an expansion in cancer research over the past five decades. Advances in technology continue to help us discover and understand the various types of cancer cells, their causes, triggers, treatment and prevention. A number of cancers are no longer deadly resulting in an increased lifespan for many. Another crucial factor in survival and healing is the experience and support systems available to cancer patients, their caregivers and survivors. Issues including employment, debt, mental health, post-operative procedures and care could change the recovery trajectory of patients beyond technological advancement. This presentation highlights research and practical interventions that have informed how cancer care is provided before, during and after treatment.
Dr. Stein is Adjunct Associate Professor in the Rollins School of Public Health at Emory University and the former Executive Director of the Cancer Support Community's Research and Training Institute.
