WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) criticized the Biden Administration's latest initiative, the American Climate Corps, as a "war on affordable and reliable American energy" during his remarks on the Senate floor.
The Biden Administration announced the launch of the American Climate Corps, a program aimed at recruiting climate activists to become climate bureaucrats, which McConnell described as a taxpayer-funded pipeline.
While the Administration has been working to freeze energy pipelines and prioritize climate policies, McConnell argued that the economic circumstances are not suited for a new Depression-era work program. He highlighted the historic inflation and labor shortage that working families have been facing, questioning the necessity of such an initiative.
McConnell also pointed out that the President's own party did not support the creation of a climate work project during votes on the Democrats' Inflation Reduction Act last year.
"There's no Hoover Dam or Lincoln Tunnel on the other side of this nonsense spending. Just Potemkin jobs and a new make-work program when there's plenty of work to go around," McConnell stated.
According to McConnell, the advice from wealthy blue-state liberals to struggling working families is to purchase expensive electric cars and bear the financial burden of the Climate Corps.
He concluded his remarks by emphasizing the impact of these policies on working families, saying, "It doesn't sound like justice to the working families just trying to get by on President Biden's watch."
