WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) delivered a scathing critique of the Biden administration's economic policies, referring to it as "Bidenomics," during his remarks on the Senate floor today.
"The American people are absolutely sick, sick and tired, of living under Bidenomics," McConnell stated.
McConnell's remarks come in the wake of a recent survey that revealed nearly 70% of Americans believe the economy is worsening. Additionally, support for President Biden's handling of the economy has reached the lowest point of his presidency.
One of the major concerns raised by McConnell is the impact of soaring inflation on American workers. Since President Biden took office, rising inflation has effectively turned wage increases into net pay cuts for many workers.
"Real wages have declined by 2.3% since 2021," McConnell pointed out. "Household incomes fell in 17 states last year, and the savings of American families, excluding the wealthiest 20%, have actually dwindled."
McConnell highlighted the struggles faced by small business owners as well. He shared the example of a food truck owner in Atlanta who has seen his ingredient costs rise by 25% while experiencing a decline in customer demand due to reduced spending. The owner also grapples with the burden of high gas prices, which significantly impact his food truck's fuel expenses.
Referring to Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell's recent statement, McConnell echoed the sentiment that people "hate inflation." He emphasized that working families are tired of constantly worrying about how to make ends meet each month and expressed their frustration with being told that Bidenomics is beneficial for them.
McConnell's criticism of Bidenomics reflects the growing discontent among a significant portion of the American population. As concerns over inflation and economic hardships continue to mount, the pressure on the Biden administration to address these issues intensifies.
