U.S. Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) expressed his concerns about the Biden Administration's new student loan policy on the Senate floor. McConnell referred to the policy as "student loan socialism" and criticized the proposed "Income Driven Repayment" scheme.

McConnell argued that the policy would be the most expensive federal regulation in history, with estimates predicting a cost of $559 billion over the next decade. He also claimed that high-earning borrowers would avoid paying back the principal they borrowed, while low-income households would not receive the necessary relief. McConnell suggested that the policy would primarily benefit doctors and lawyers in blue states.

The Republican leader emphasized that the Biden Administration's plan would be detrimental to working Americans who have already paid off their student loans or avoided debt altogether. He further argued that the policy would incentivize colleges and universities to raise their tuition fees even higher.

McConnell highlighted that a bipartisan majority in Congress has already rejected similar loan cancellation proposals, and the Supreme Court struck down President Biden's previous attempt at massive loan cancellation. However, he expressed optimism about the Senate's chance to reject the student loan socialism policy with the resolution presented by Chairman Cassidy, Senators Thune, and Cornyn.

In conclusion, McConnell urged his colleagues to support the resolution and reject the Biden Administration's student loan socialism policy.
