U.S. Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell has announced that the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) will award $144,000 in federal funding to the Morehead-Rowan County Clyde A. Thomas Regional Airport. The funding will be used for the construction of a portion of the new general aviation apron at the airport, according to the FAA. The grant was made possible through the Airport Infrastructure Grant (AIG) program, which was established in the bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA).
In response to the announcement, Senator McConnell stated, “Today’s announcement is welcome news for my home state, where regional airports are a crucial piece of our transportation network. These federal funds will make a much-needed investment in Morehead-Rowan County Airport’s infrastructure, and I look forward to seeing its positive impact on the community. I supported the bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act because of programs like this that ready Kentucky’s communities with the resources they need to grow and thrive.”
Dr. Bruce Mattingly, Chair of the Morehead-Rowan County Airport Board, expressed gratitude for the federal funding, saying, “This project is one of our most important undertakings at Morehead-Rowan County Airport, and we’re thrilled to see this federal funding support its completion. We’re thankful to Senator McConnell for his support in securing this grant and his continued advocacy on behalf of Kentuckians in Washington.”
