WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) announced today the U.S. Department of Transportation will provide $101,203 in federal funding to Henderson City-County Airport. The funding is aimed at extending a critical runway at the airport to meet Federal Aviation Administration standards. This grant, made possible through the bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, is set to enhance the airport's infrastructure significantly.
Senator McConnell, a key figure in the passage of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act in 2021, expressed his satisfaction with the allocation of funds, stating, "Today’s federal funding, made possible through the bipartisan infrastructure bill, brings home much-needed resources to the Henderson community and its local airport. I’m pleased to see this legislation deliver more wins for West Kentucky and give Henderson City-County Airport what it needs to better serve the community and fuel growth in the region."
In response to the news, Henderson City-County Airport Manager Allen Bennett conveyed gratitude towards Senator McConnell, saying, “The Henderson City-County Airport team and our local leaders are thankful for Senator McConnell's support in securing this federal award. This funding will help us continue important upgrades to Henderson Airport's infrastructure and provide an even better experience.”
The grant, facilitated through the Airport Infrastructure Grant program, is part of the broader efforts to allocate federal funds over five years to enhance various aspects of Kentucky's infrastructure. This financial injection is expected to not only improve the operations at Henderson City-County Airport but also contribute to the overall development and prosperity of the region.
