WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) criticized the Biden Administration's environmental policies, specifically targeting the Clean Power Plan 2.0. McConnell voiced his concerns on the Senate floor, highlighting the potential negative impacts on the energy industry and jobs in Kentucky and across the nation.
McConnell stated, "These regulations would effectively force many power plants to close, endanger more good-paying jobs in my home state of Kentucky, and burden working Americans around the country with higher electricity bills." He also emphasized a quote from an industry advocate in Kentucky who expressed that the Biden administration is "disconnected from reality."
Pointing to a recent report from the Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO), McConnell highlighted the significant increase in electricity costs due to the retiring coal plants. He argued that not only is the policy bad, but it is also illegal, referencing the Supreme Court's previous decision on the Clean Power Plan.
McConnell reaffirmed his stance against the Clean Power Plan by recalling his past efforts to disapprove of the original plan and his continued support for disapproving the EPA's latest regulations. He expressed his commitment to standing behind the workers in coal country who play a vital role in keeping the lights on for Americans.
